Shawn R. Meloy

Shawn teaches oboe, clarinet, saxophone and piano as well as music composition. Shawn is also the executive director of SSO.

Shawn R. Meloy

Shawn Meloy is an oboist, pianist, and composer who lives in Olympia. He has been teaching in Olympia since 2005 when he started conducting the junior orchestra in the Capitol Area Youth Symphony Association. Since then he has developed a successful private studio instructing students of all ages in music on all woodwinds, piano, and music composition. Shawn attended Pacific Lutheran University where he studied music composition and oboe performance, getting the unique opportunity to work with the Principal Emeritus oboist for the Seattle Symphony, Bernard Shapiro. Since he started teaching he has had several students participate and do very well in all levels of competition on the oboe and piano.

Past experience also includes: 2 years participating in the Young Composers' Forum through the Seattle Symphony while in high school, produced the Pacific Northwest Composer's Workshop which held a performance at Seattle Central Community College, performed with the Olympia Chamber Orchestra and the Olympia Symphony Orchestra on the oboe, and has opened and operated the 501(c)3 nonprofit music school Sound Studios Olympia along with a board of directors. Besides being busy with music Shawn also enjoys tennis, snooker, languages, and occasionally cooking with vegetables he has grown in pots on the balcony of his apartment. Shawn is described as patient and knowledgeable by parents and students.
