Pat Kilmer

I learned to read music from my sister when I was 5. I was an independent learner, getting tips and books from my community until I was 14, when I got my piano and lessons for Christmas and my birthday. I studied with Hope Bohn in Snohomish County for 2-1/2 years, then stopped lessons and took up the guitar at age 16-1/2. I studied a year of music theory in college (my degree is in Biology), and a year of acoustic guitar lessons with Michael Lynch at age 19.
I collaborated with middle school and high school choirs and at weddings many times during my teens and 20's on both instruments.
When I moved to Olympia in 1994, I studied piano with Penny Purkerson for a year and collaborated with Missoula Children's Theater when they came to the Tumwater School District elementary schools during the 90's. More recently, I studied piano with Mary Jane Clarke for 3 years.
Ukulele is my latest teaching endeavor, and I am really enjoying exploring the similarities and differences from guitar.
